Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) is optimistic that the rancor experienced during the campaign ahead of its internal elections so far will not go beyond today.
According to Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo, the lead-up to today’s election has been heated and may have put all sides involved in a difficult situation.
However, the Chairman believes the situation shows the democratic prowess of the opposition party at play.
Mr Ofosu-Ampofo sees this value as key should the NDC replace the Akufo-Addo-led NPP administration in the upcoming general elections.
He was speaking at the Accra Sports Stadium where the party is holding its 2022 congress to elect new executives.
The government, as it stands, is one that breeds cronyism, and corruption and disregards the needs of the ordinary Ghanaian, the Chairman said.
One of the challenges, he believes is the inability of President Akufo-Addo to remove the Finance Minister who has been accused of mismanaging the economy.
"They [Ghanaians] are looking for leaders who will not direct access and opportunities to their children, brothers, cousins, mothers, and clansmen and damn all others." he said.
It is for this reason that Mr Oforu-Ampofo wants the congress to “quickly regroup after today irrespective of how the election goes."
He believes ones the process is done, the party will now focus on adequately preparing to capture power to make the country a better place.
"Today will mark the beginning of our march towards rescuing Ghana from the wickedness, ineptitude and catastrophic NPP government"
Samuel Ofosu-Ampofus is also in the running to retain his position as the party's chairperson.
