Minority Leader, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, has assured citizens of the newly-appointed leadership of the National Democratic Congress’ Caucus in parliament’s resolve to hold this government to account.
According to him, that is the major task ahead for his team and he is poised to deal with the deteriorating nature of governance in the country.
Speaking in his first interview since his appointment on JoyNews’ PM Express, he assured Ghanaians that the NDC caucus was ready to work for the country’s interests only.
“I believe the task ahead of us is to hold this government to account, most importantly to deal with the deteriorating nature of governance and to preserve our democracy by assuring the people of Ghana that we’re in to work for them. I think that is the main crust and there’s nothing more and nothing less,” he said.
The Ajumako-Enyam-Essiam MP also noted that he has assured the Majority group in parliament of the new leadership’s willingness to work together for the good of the country.
He, however, pointed out that this assurance was in no way a promise not to be firm and resolute in the performance of their watchdog role in parliament.
“We have also assured the Majority, obviously the NPP side that in as much as we’re going to be resolute, firm and all what you can describe in doing our job, obviously the oversight function of parliament, we’re not going to be needlessly obstructionists, the country first.
“But obviously, there are things that obviously we’ll differ from particularly on policy and when we strongly believe that things must be done right we can assure you that we’ll insist on that,” he said.
