A mother of three who trekked to sell Kenkey in Greater Kumasi has received financial assistance from the public.

Ama Darkowaa's story touched many people, including Marivic Saladar, a Canadian who sent her CAD$100 (Canadian dollars) to help start her own business.

A section of the Ghanaian public also sent in contributions totaling GH₵2,323.50 for Ama, who lives in Adankwame in the Ashanti region.

JoyNews' Mahmud Mohammed-Nurudeen earlier described meeting Ama on the street selling Kenkey on a hot Monday afternoon.

She admitted hawking the Kenkey is difficult, but she has no other options to support her three children.

"What else will you do if you get a different opportunity?" she was asked.

Ama explained she wanted to stay in the Kenkey business but to set up her own business.

"How much money do you need to get started?," she was asked again but Ama maintained he needed GH₵700.

"Will GH₵700 suffice?" was asked. Ama insists this is precisely what she has been searching for.

The young woman has received more than she needed to establish herself, thanks to public contributions.

The money raised was given to Ama at her Adankwame residence on Tuesday, April 18, 2023, to help her start her business.

She was both thrilled and shocked that her public prayer had been answered within a few hours.

"I never knew people were so kind. This is unexpected, but I will not disappoint them," she stated emotionally.

At the time of the visit, one of the three children had gone to school.

While looking at the list of 13 people who donated to help her, she prayed to God for guidance and protection in their daily activities.

"Whatever they have done, may it come back to them in multiple folds," Ama said.

Ama is one of the hundreds of young women working hard to support themselves and their families during these difficult times.

But now that she has found help, she is hopeful that she will be able to help her colleagues in the future and make their lives better.
