Senior lecturer at the University of Ghana, Dr Joseph Ansong, has called on the government to prioritize mathematics training in the country.
According to him, the subject is a driving force that backs innovation, a key ingredient in nation-building.

Speaking at a stakeholders' event celebrating the Day of Scientific Renaissance of Africa, the mathematics lecturer highlighted the importance of mathematics as a foundation for science, technology, and innovation.
He stated, "I think that the country needs to pay attention to mathematics because it is a foundation for science, technology, and innovation."

The event, organised by the University's School of Physical and Mathematical Sciences on Wednesday, June 14, focused on 'Mathematics in Africa: Critical Resource for Development.'
During his presentation, Dr. Ansong emphasised mathematics's pivotal role in developing every nation.
Dr Ansong further emphasized the significance of mathematics across various fields, stating, "It doesn't matter which field you're talking about; having knowledge and expertise in math is essential to get things done."
"Therefore, it is important that we pay attention to mathematics instruction at all levels, from kindergarten to university, with particular emphasis on the university level."
Dean of the School of Physical Science and Mathematics, Prof Sandow Mark Yidana was impressed by the presentation and called on stakeholders to see to the effective application of mathematics in all related spheres.

Following his presentation, an exhibition showcasing scholarly works and technological innovations undertaken by various departments at SMPS took place.
