The Director of Communications at the Presidency has announced his decision to contest the parliamentary primaries of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for the Awutu Senya West constituency.
In a Facebook post on Thursday, July 13, Mr Arhin said he has harboured the idea for a while.
According to him, he wants to help accelerate the development of the constituency currently held by the National Democratic Congress’ Gizella Tetteh.
“This is to confirm, officially, that I will be contesting the parliamentary primaries of the New Patriotic Party in the Awutu Senya West constituency in the Central Region.”
“Win or lose, my commitment to ensuring the constituency returns to the fold of the NPP in 2024 is unwavering.”
The NPP shall hold its parliamentary primaries from Saturday, September 23, 2023, to December 2, 2023, for the Orphan Constituencies on a case-by-case basis across the country.
Orphan constituencies are constituencies the party currently does not have a sitting Member of Parliament (MP).
Aspiring Parliamentary Candidates are to procure the Nomination Forms after the payment of a non-refundable application fee of ¢3,000 acceptable in the form of a Bankers Draft in favour of the NPP National Headquarters, Accra.
Successful candidates would then pay a non-refundable filing fee of ¢35,000.00 to the party again.
However, for the purpose of encouraging more women, youth and Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) to aspire to higher political office, such prospective aspiring parliamentary candidates would enjoy a rebate of 50 per cent on the filing fees.
This means that they would be required to pay a non-refundable filing fee of ¢17,500, he said.
