The Communications Directorate of the Office of Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has denied allegations that his campaign to become the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer is being sponsored by an Islamic group in Nigeria.
In a press statement issued on Wednesday, July 19, the directorate denied the claim made by one David Humdeyin, a journalist in Nigeria.
According to the release, the allegations have been picked up by some political actors in Ghana to achieve their propaganda objectives.
It is thus asking the public to disregard same as Dr Bawumia’s campaign has no linkage with any Islamic group.
“The attention of the Bawumia Campaign Team has been drawn to a post by one David Humdeyin, a journalist in Nigeria, that the Bawumia Campaign is being funded by some Islamic group in Nigeria called the ACF.
“We notice that the same narrative has been copied by some persons and groups in Ghana on social media.”
“This narrative is obviously false, fabricated, and only serves the propaganda purposes of its promoters.”
“For the avoidance of doubt, the Bawumia Campaign has no funding or any linkage with any Islamic group in Nigeria or anywhere else,” excerpts of the statement said.
It added that the campaign team of Dr Bawumia is focused and will not be distracted by such antics.
“The Bawumia Campaign is focused and will not be distracted by such vain untruths.”
It concluded that he will not depart from his principles as a very diligent and transparent person due to the contest.
“The Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has been very diligent and transparent from his days as a scholar, banker, and politician throughout his life and will not depart from these now and forever.”
