The Chairman of the Peace Council, Prof Emmanuel Asante has lamented how the country is governed when political parties are given the power.
Speaking in an interview on JoyNews’ The Pulse on Monday, he said the way they [Politicians] rule is just on a political basis and not governance.
“What happens in our country is that as soon I come into power, I am not thinking about what to do now, I am thinking about how to stay in power so we are always doing politics and not governing,” he said.
According to him, the right governing system will do the right thing even if it is not voted into power in the next election.
He urged Ghanaians to also maintain the democracy the country is practicing, adding that “it is our interest as Ghanaians to protect what we have.”
He added, “I would rather go for democracy in difficulty than go for military rule."
He also called on the African continent to take a second look at the type of democracy being operated.
“In Rwanda, we have a strong man there and he is able to put his foot down. We need leaders who will be able to say that these people should not trade here, they need to move their stuff because it doesn’t help the country and not thinking about being elected or re-elected,” he explained.
