A British woman seeking to travel to the United Kingdom with her Ghanaian husband has accused an official of the British High Commission of racist taunts.Madam Sylwia Uchman says an Indian Visa Officer at the Commission passed racial comments about her husband, Mr Robbie Robertson. She said the incident happened last Monday when she went to the High Commission in pursuit of her husband’s visa application. Miss Uchman who is now Mrs Robertson says her husband was denied the visa after the officials subjected him to verbal abuses.“The woman said why is it that I do not come and live in Ghana. I said that I live and work in London and it would be very difficult to come and study here. She started telling me that I am supposed to know that if I am getting married to a black Ghanaian then I am going to get immigration problems. She made me feel very angry. I felt very rude, nasty and sarcastic to me. The most important is that she said she does not believe our marriage is a true marriage and that she does not believe we love each other like a husband and a wife,” she narrated.Mrs Roberson has vowed to pursue the matter all the way to her home country until she gets redress.“The comments made me feel that she is a typical racist woman. The moment I get to London, I am going to report the situation to the local MP and the Home Office in England,” she said.Meanwhile the Political Press Officer at the Commission in Ghana, Mr Gary Nicholls, says the matter has not come to their attention. He however pointed out that racial comments by the Commission’s staff are taken seriously. He advised the complainant to make a formal complaint to the Commission for investigations.“We are totally not aware of such case,” Mr Nicholls said.
