The National Identification Authority (NIA) has announced the inauguration of a seven-member joint management-union committee, which took place on Friday, 1st September 2023.
In attendance were a representative of the NIA governing board - Prof. Anthony Panin; Executive Secretary of NIA - Prof. Kenneth A. Attafuah; Secretary General of the Trade Union Congress, TUC, Dr. Yaw Baah; General Secretary of the Public Service Workers Union, PSWU, Mr Bernard Adjei; executives of the Public Service Workers Union (PSWU) division of NIA; representatives from Industrial Commercial Workers, ICU Division of NIA; and management and senior members of staff of NIA.
The establishment of the Joint Management-PSWU Committee represents a crucial step towards fostering collaboration, transparency, and effective governance within the NIA.
This committee will serve as a platform for constructive dialogue between management and union representatives, ultimately benefiting the entire organization and its stakeholders.
Prof. Kenneth A. Attafuah, Executive Secretary of NIA, expressed his optimism about this initiative, stating, "We believe that this committee will enhance communication and cooperation between all parties involved, ensuring the smooth operation of the NIA's vital functions."
Dr. Yaw Baah, Secretary General of TUC, added, "The partnership between the NIA and the union is pivotal in addressing the needs and concerns of the workforce while striving for the Authority's continued success."
The committee was formally inaugurated by Prof. Anthony Panin, the representative of the NIA Governing Board Chairman who clearly reiterated the terms of reference as follows:
Identify and resolve issues of mutual interest or concern to NIA management and staff; enhance industrial relations and staff welfare at NIA and; pursue any other related matters as the committee would deem necessary and appropriate.
Prof. Anthony Panin further encouraged the committee to work in cordiality and good faith.
The Chairman of the Committee Col. Peter Kwame Ghansah (Rtd) spoke on behalf of the committee promising to keep harmony and unity as the two sides work together.
He stated “there is no need for entrenched positions. Let us work together and communicate in a cordial and timely manner.”
The Committee comprises Col. Peter Kwame Ghansah (Rtd), Director Operations and Chairman; Alhaji Mahama Suleiman Sualihu, Director - Audit; Mr Jay Awuah-Peasah, Ag. Director - Administration / Human Resource; Ms. Lawrencia Mensah, Senior Officer - Human Resource; representing the management of NIA.
The Public Service Workers Union (PSWU) Division of NIA is represented by Francis Bangfudeme Nyuzaghl, Divisional Chairman; Kwabena Adu Kyeremeh, Divisional Secretary and John Nii Donu Sampah, Deputy General Secretary, PSWU. The Committee Secretary is Theodie Addo-Dankwa, Corporate Affairs Officer, NIA.
