Security analyst, Adib Saani says the interdiction of the three senior police officers who are being probed by a parliamentary committee is ill-timed.
The Director General Technical of the Ghana Police Service, Commissioner of Police (COP) Alex George Mensah, Supt. George Lysander Asare and Emmanuel Gyebi were on Thursday, September 7, interdicted over their involvement in a viral leaked tape that allegedly seeks to oust the Inspector General of Police, Dr Akuffo Dampare from office.
A statement from the police indicated that the interdiction of the officers “is to make way for disciplinary proceedings into their conduct in line with Police Service regulations.”
But speaking on JoyNews’ The Pulse on Thursday, Mr Saani said although he is not surprised about the interdiction, he believes it is too late.
According to him, it should have been done immediately after the alleged leaked tape went public.

He added that the senior officers should have been interdicted even before the formation of Parliament’s committee to probe the authenticity of the leaked tape.
“At this point in time, it looks like it is ill-timed owing to what the parliamentary committee is also doing right now… I think it is ill-timed that notwithstanding, it is not illegal,” he said.
The security analyst noted that there are three entities that can issue disciplinary action against officers within the police structure, namely; the president, the IGP and the police disciplinary court.
This, in his view, is clearly spelled out in the police’s service regulation C.I 76 section 105 (1). Therefore, it is within the law for such an action to be taken.
