Tullow Oil in partnership with HR Focus has organised the 6th edition of the HR Focus Career Clinic in a bid to empower job seekers and students.
The event was organised to guide them toward a brighter future in their respective career paths. Renowned Broadcast Journalist and General Manager of Citi FM, Bernard Avle, delivered a compelling keynote speech at the HR Focus Career Clinic 2023, offering valuable advice to attendees.
During his keynote address, he urged participants to place themselves in situations that demand personal growth and discipline, highlighting the paramount importance of cultivating marketable skills in the modern professional landscape.
Drawing from his own career journey, he underscored the need to stay adaptable and continuously acquire relevant skills.
The event, aptly themed "From Crisis to Success, Building Career Resilience," took place at the LOC Events Centre in Adabakra, and saw about 200 participants attend.
Distinguished speakers included such as George Quaye, representing Daniel McKorley of McDan Shipping, Richard Sena Quarshie from Media General Digital, Chichi Yakubu of Nyonyo Essentials, Shirley Tony Kum from Vivo Energy Ghana, Hope Cornel Yibor from NutriFoods Ghana Ltd., and Barry Neequaye from Oasis Studios.
In his welcome address, Mr. James Laar, Managing Director of L’AINE HR, expressed the organization's commitment to equipping young entrepreneurs and job seekers with essential strategies and resilience, helping them transform challenges into opportunities.
George Quaye, delivering the second keynote address on behalf of Mr. Daniel McKorley, CEO of McDan Group of Companies, encouraged attendees to actively network and make themselves available for opportunities, whether paid or unpaid.
Panel Discussions
One of the highlights of the event was the engaging panel discussions. Mr. Hope Yibor, during the panel on "Turning Career Setbacks into Comebacks: Strategies for Building Resilience in the Face of Adversity," stressed the significance of building a robust professional network and the benefits of volunteerism in advancing one's career.
Naana Obeng Drah, Senior HR Advisor at Tullow Oil PLC, emphasized the importance of staying updated and adaptable in today's dynamic job market. She noted that knowledge of data insights and AI is becoming increasingly crucial for career success.
Chichi Yakubu and Barry Neequaye shared their entrepreneurial journeys during the Start Up Hub session, offering valuable insights into the world of entrepreneurship. Chichi emphasized the importance of financial management and accounting in starting and running a successful business, highlighting the role of money in entrepreneurship. Barry Neequaye urged aspiring entrepreneurs to uphold ethical practices and comply with tax laws, underscoring the importance of doing things right from the outset.
Mentorship Sessions & CV Reviews
Shirley Tony Kum, Richard Sena Quarshie, and Victoria Kissiedu, HR Advisor at Tullow Oil, conducted inspiring mentorship sessions, motivating and guiding participants towards their career goals. Attendees also had the invaluable opportunity to engage in one-on-one career guidance sessions and have their CVs reviewed by esteemed HR practitioners.
