Despite being present in his office, the Western Regional Minister, Kwabena Okyere Darko Mensah, could not muster the courage to meet with protestors who had in hand a petition detailing all the challenges for which they sought solutions.
Instead, the minister locked himself in his office, refusing to yield to pressure and constant calls to meet some residents of Takoradi.
The protestors, mainly residents of Secondi-Takoradi, are demanding extra attention from the government for the nation's most resourced region.

In a peaceful demonstration held on Friday, the residents walked about 10 kilometers to register their displeasure over the neglect of the region.
Their primary objective was to meet the government official to discuss their grievances.

However, the Minister's refusal to face his people was perceived as a missed opportunity to demonstrate effective leadership, calm nerves, and let the public know that the government recognizes their needs.

On their part, the police acted professionally, ensuring that the agreed-upon route was adhered to.

Among other things, the protestors are asking government to address the poor road infrastructure and economic decline within the region.

They are also demanding job opportunities and an end to the high cost of living.
Again, all abandoned projects should be completed while basic infrastructure and necessities are provided.
