Bui Power Authority (BPA) has extended its support to the victims affected by the recent Akosombo Dam spillage by donating essential relief items.
The donation comprising food supplies, packaged water and toiletries was handed over to the Volta River Authority (VRA) to assist those affected by the incident.
The Deputy Chief Executive Officer (CEO) in charge of Engineering, Operations and Technical aspects at BPA, Emmanuel Tandoh led the presentation.
He stated that the donation would aid the VRA in addressing the aftermath of the controlled spillage, acknowledging the devastating impact it had caused.
Bui Power, which operates the country's primary micro-hydro generating station in the Volta Region also empathises with the region's distress.
Mr. Tandoh highlighted the solidarity between the two organizations, stating, “Our hearts go out to all those affected by this unfortunate incident, and we want to assure you are not alone in this challenging time.
“As a sister company to the VRA, Bui Power is faced with a profound sense of responsibility, to take action by donating to support the ongoing recovery efforts in the Volta Region,” Mr. Tandoh stated.
The BPA Deputy CEO emphasised their commitment to not only offer immediate relief but also contribute to the long-term recovery and empowerment of the affected communities.
Receiving the donated items on behalf of the victims, the Director of Finance at VRA, Mr. Paul Otoo Seniagya expressed gratitude, stating that the items would be distributed to the appropriate recipients and urged other organisations to extend their support to the relief efforts.
The controlled spillage from the Akosombo and Kpong dams has resulted in the displacement of nearly 40,000 individuals across eight districts in the lower Volta region.
