The Regent of Jirapa, Justice Donglabong Dinaa has called on authorities to develop the tourist sites within the Jirapa municipality.
According to Justice Donglabong Dinaa, although the area has many potential tourist sites that can draw foreign visitors to Jirapa, they lack the necessary infrastructure to host and entertain these tourists.
“I think we have areas that would attract foreigners to come and visit Jirapa and the Upper West region for that matter should the areas be developed to its fullest.
"So I will ask the authorities to consciously accept to come to Jirapa and develop the tourist sites that we have”.
Speaking on the JoyNews AM Show, he cited the Mushroom Rocks at Wuling as an example of a site which could be developed to become a renowned tourist destination.
The Regent of Jirapa Traditional Area said if the government invests in tourism infrastructure in the municipality, it could create jobs and boost economic activity in the area.
“There is a very rich story behind it (Mushroom Rocks) but it does not seem to have the contribution of the authorities such that, it would be developed into a modern site for people that would want to visit there.
"You go there most often you don’t even get somebody to tell you the story until we draw their attention and the story I have been told about that place is so fascinating that if you come and you are told you may want to assist us to develop the place,” he added.
