A relationship expert, Reverend Mrs. Catherine Onwioduokit, says it is important for both men and women to be happy with each other about their achievements when they are in a relationship.
She cautioned people who are not married to be careful about getting into relationships with those who are not supportive.
Speaking on JoyFM's Super Morning Show on Friday, Mama Cathy, as she is affectionately called, said that many married people do not get praised by their partners for their successes and cautioned single people to stay away from those kinds of relationships.
“If you are not married and listening to me, do not repeat that mistake this year of marrying a person that you have never heard of. Oh, Kojo, you have done so well. I am so proud of you, Amina; you are the best gift God has given me.
"I am not saying this to flatter you. I am saying this because I have seen the tremendous improvement that you have brought to my life, to my thinking, and to my reasoning. The way I rationalize things. You have been a blessing,” she said.
According to Rev. Onwioduokit, some relationships are plagued by insecurity and jealousy, which can manifest in unpleasant ways.
She mentioned that this is the result of partners who feel threatened by each other's accomplishments and view each other as rivals.
Mama Cathy argued that healthy relationships are based on mutual respect and support, where partners celebrate each other's successes.
“I have seen a woman who has been married for close to thirty years now, I am telling you. The husband is making tremendous improvements in life but does not care about adding value to the wife, and he is using that to say she is not my speck. Nobody is anybody’s speck; everything you see, it is somebody that waters the garden," she said.
