In a stunning development at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Cote d’Ivoire, Tanzania has parted ways with coach Adel Amrouche following an 8-match ban imposed by the CAF Disciplinary Committee.
The coach’s removal comes in the wake of serious and catastrophic allegations against Morocco’s Football Federation (FRMF), where Amrouche claimed that African football is being manipulated by FRMF.
Accusing FRMF of wielding undue influence, Amrouche stated, “Currently, the FRMF is a confirmed power in the African football world, in the last match against Morocco, they forced us to play in the evening when we wanted to play in the early afternoon,” in a televised statement to an Algerian TV channel.
The CAF’s decision to ban Amrouche prompted the Tanzanian Football Federation (TFF) to sever ties with him.
Tanzania suffered a 3-0 defeat to Morocco in their first Group Match, leaving them with two upcoming games against Zambia and DR Congo.
In the interim, Hemed Morocco will lead the Taifa Stars in the remaining group-stage matches at the Africa Cup of Nations, with assistance from Juma Mgunda.
This unexpected turn of events adds a layer of intrigue to Tanzania’s campaign as they navigate the challenges in the tournament.
