President Nana Akufo-Addo has appointed the Chief of Army Staff, Major General Thomas Oppong-Peprah as the Chief of Defence Staff, effective Thursday, February 1, 2024.
This was contained in a press statement signed by the Director of Communications at the Office of the President, Eugene Arhin on Wednesday, January 24.
The statement said the appointment was made subject to consultation with the Council of State, under the provisions of Article 212 of the Constitution of the Republic.
It further said that the appointment followed the “imminent completion of the tour of duty and subsequent retirement from the Ghana Armed Forces, on Thursday, 1st February 2024, of the current Chief of Defence Staff, Vice Admiral Seth Amoama.”
Commenting on the retirement of Vice Admiral Seth Amoama, President Akufo-Addo expressed gratitude for his devoted and meritorious service to the GAF and the nation at large.
Furthermore, President Akufo-Addo has appointed Maj. Gen. Bismarck Kwasi Onwona as Chief of Army Staff, to succeed Major General Thomas Oppong-Peprah, effective Thursday, February 1, 2024.
