President Akufo-Addo has committed to championing the cause of interoperability across Africa, pledging to rally fellow presidents to make it readily available on the continent.
Speaking at the Africa Prosperity Dialogues (APD) 2024 on Saturday, January 27, the President emphasised that with the right political will, making interoperability a reality across Africa should be achievable.
“Just like I did last year, I intend, with the support of my colleagues, to present the Peduase Compact to the 37th Ordinary Assembly of Heads of State in Addis Ababa in three weeks’ time,” he said.
“There are items in this compact which I believe can be quickly implemented if we are able to mobilise the needed political will, such as achieving interoperability across Africa.
“I promise with the support of my colleagues to do what we can to make interoperability a reality within member states,” Akufo-Addo said.
Interoperability in mobile money allows traders and customers to make transfers between accounts held by different mobile money providers.
This move is expected to reduce transaction costs and eliminate the need for third-party payment providers when initiating transfers across networks.
