During his appearance before the Appointments Committee of Parliament on Tuesday, March 5, Mr Mercer emphasised the immense potential of the tourism industry to mitigate the country's escalating unemployment rates.
The legal practitioner highlighted the government's recognition of tourism as a pivotal sector, exemplified by initiatives like the Year of Return, aimed at attracting investments to Ghana.
Despite these strides, the Sekondi Member of Parliament acknowledged the need for further action, pledging to spearhead additional efforts for the benefit of the Ghanaian populace.
Mr Mercer assured the committee of his intention to introduce dynamism into the ministry's operations, including robust collaboration with the private sector, to drive the country's tourism development agenda.
"So I will ensure that the government makes the right investments already a lot has been done in terms of the project, product and the marketing of the Year of Return for example December in Ghana has created huge jobs but a lot more has to be done, and it will be my responsibility then to ensure the right investments in the sector are done to ensure job creation," he said.
