International tech company, Yango, has organized the maiden edition of its ‘Women in Transport Conference’ to empower and inspire women in the transport and ride-hailing business in Ghana as part of activities to mark this year’s International Women’s Day celebrations.
The conference was to appreciate the resilience; innovation and contribution of women who navigate the roads and continue to shape the future of the transportation industry, whilst equipping them with the right skillset to enable them succeed in their chosen profession.
It assembled some of the finest women achievers in the transport industry to share their journey and success stories as role models in the business to motivate and inspire other existing and upcoming women seeking to enter the digital mobility business.

Yango also cleared the bills of about 20 female patients in the maternity and orthopedic wards of the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital. The beneficiaries had been kept at the hospital for several weeks after delivery and treatments due to their inability to pay off their medical bills.
International Call Centre Coordinator for Yango Ghana, Ms. Audrey Ako-Addo, told journalists that the two activities were to inspire inclusion in the transport sector and to give back to society.
“On the occasion of this year’s International Women’s Day, we brought together women from all walks of life, partner agencies, couriers and female drivers on the app to inspire them and create awareness about the good work they’ve been doing with Yango technology,” she said.
She added: “Through this activity, we hope to inspire inclusion of women in the transport sector and get more women to drive on the Yango app.”

A dispatch rider, Ms. Sheila Amponsah, who participated in the conference, commended Yango for the empowering Ghanaian women to succeed in the transport and logistics sector
She said: “I’m excited to be part of this event because I’ve learned a lot of new things that will help my work. I have been inspired as a woman rider to appreciate my chosen profession and strive to leave a legacy in the industry.
I encourage my fellow female riders to switch to Yango because its’ the best; working on the flexible mode has been very beneficial to me because I’m able to make some income for myself and family.”
Another participant, Ms. Margaret Nubil, who is a driver on the Yango app, said that she was empowered and motivated as a female driver.
“I’m glad to be part of this experience; driving on Yango has been very beneficial because I now have a reliable source of livelihood for my family. I encourage women to overcome their fears and the stereotypes in the industry and start earning some income for themselves,” she advised.
