The West African Gas Pipeline Company Limited (WAPCo) has revealed that the power outage experienced in some parts of Accra on Friday was a result of a system glitch.
In a press release dated March 23, WAPCo stated that its Tema facility completely shut down due to the glitch at about 10:30 pm.
Areas such as Tema, Lapaz, Weija, Mallam, Kasoa barrier, and others encountered electricity disruptions on Friday.
The company noted that it resumed gas delivery to customers in Tema at around 6.30 am on Saturday after engineers worked throughout the night to ensure power was restored.
"WAPCo is committed to delivering safe and reliable services and is investigating the root cause of the problem to prevent a recurrence," part of the statement signed by Dr Isaac Adjei Doku, the General Manager of Corporate Affairs read.
The company added that, "WAPCo is grateful to its key stakeholders for their patience while the system was being fixed and regrets any inconvenience caused, especially to our customers in Tema that relay on WAGP gas for power generation."
