Ghanaian artiste, Alapta Wan, has called on the government to replicate the annual ‘Taste of Ghana’ event in other regions apart from Greater Accra.
Taste of Ghana, a government event organised by organised by Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC) in partnership with Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) and Ghana Export Promotion Authority (GEPA), celebrates various Ghanaian dishes alongside music and other arts forms.
The event which has churned out four episodes already, usually has vendors offering diverse flavours of Ghanaian foods, drinks, clothes, fashion accessories, and artifacts.
There are also activities like cooking competition, fashion show, concert, art exhibition, canopy walk, masquerade performances, and film shows.
Some artistes that have performed at the show include Shatta Wale, R2Bees, EL, Fancy Gadam, Adina, Gasmilla, Vanilla, Eno Barony, and Kofi Jamal.
Speaking on Joy FM’s Showbiz A-Z, Alapta Wan who has also performed at 'Taste of Ghana' before, suggested that event be rotated across various parts of the country.
“We are having some of the big programmes in Accra only. Example is ‘Taste of Ghana’. Last two years, it was in Accra, last year, Accra. Imagine if we move this programme to different regions.
Let’s say last year it was in Accra. We are taking it to say Takoradi," she said.
The Navrongo-based artiste who does mainly reggae and dancehall music indicated that doing music at places other than the Greater Accra Region is daunting. She cited limited resources such as media platforms, events and media platforms as some of the challenges faced by artistes living outside Ghana's capital city, Accra.
She told the host Kwame Dadzie that in spite of the setbacks, she is able to get appreciable visibility across the country through her team’s strategic move.
She holds an annual concert dubbed BoombaFest in Navrongo.
Alapta Wan has songs such as Africa is Bleeding, Bless Me, Odeshi and Boosu.
