Former Auditor-General Daniel Yao Domelevo has voiced his admiration for Organised Labour's staunch resistance against the sale of 60% shares in four hotels by the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT). 

In an interview with Channel One TV on Monday, July 15, Domelevo lauded Organised Labour for their unwavering commitment to thwarting the hotel sales.

Mr Domelevo emphasised that SSNIT management failed to accord due respect to Organised Labour's concerns, prompting him to support their steadfast opposition to the sale.

He underscored the importance of respecting the views and rights of Organised Labour in such matters.

The former Auditor-General commended Organised Labour for standing firm against what they perceived as an improper decision by SSNIT management. 

He expressed solidarity with their efforts to safeguard the interests involved, highlighting the significance of transparency and accountability in public institutions like SSNIT.

“I follow all those developments with keen interest, and I must say kudos to Organised Labour for standing their ground against what I think is not right. If you’re doing something on my behalf which is right, I think it’s proper to consult me, such that I know that you’re securing my interest,” he said.

Mr. Domelevo raised concerns about the government's choice to sell its assets to a cabinet minister. 

He called on institutions such as Organised Labour to maintain their resolve in ensuring that public officials are held accountable for their decisions and actions.

“So, if these things were not revealed by Ablakwa, otherwise, before you realised, it has been sold. And I find it very strange that a government will sell government property to a member of the government.

“I don’t know where we’re on conflict of interest and how we’re respecting the provision under Article 284, which says a public officer should not put himself or herself into a position whereby his personal interests would conflict with the work that he/she does.

"I find it a bit strange and kudos to Organised Labour, I think we need a bit more of that to hold people accountable,” he added.
