The Minister of Local Government and Decentralisation, Martin Kwaku Adjei-Mensah Korsah, has denied allegations regarding the sale of Parks and Gardens lands to a private developer.
This controversy arose after Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, the Member of Parliament for North Tongu, publicly claimed that these valuable green spaces were being transferred to private ownership.
Originally designated during the colonial era as an essential green belt, the Parks and Gardens lands have represented Ghana’s commitment to environmental preservation while fostering an eco-friendly ecosystem.
Concerns about the alleged sale have sparked widespread debate, with critics arguing that such actions could undermine the nation’s long-standing environmental heritage.
During a working visit to various departments and agencies under the Ministry of Local Government, Decentralisation, and Rural Development on July 22, Mr Adjei-Mensah Korsah directly addressed and refuted these allegations.
“I emphasize the government’s steadfast commitment to protecting state lands. I assure the public that there are no ongoing plans or negotiations for their privatisation,” he said.
