The Electoral Commission (EC) has assured Ghanaians that the 2024 Voters Register is robust and credible.
The Commission in a post on Facebook on Wednesday, August 28, urged the public to disregard claims suggesting that the voter register is not fit for purpose.
"The 2024 Voters Register is robust and credible. Ignore assertions that the Voters Register is not fit for the 2024 Elections," the EC statement read.
This statement comes amidst concerns raised by the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama regarding the integrity of the voters register ahead of the upcoming elections.
Mr Mahama criticised the EC, accusing it of failing to ensure a credible voters' register for the upcoming 2024 elections.
During his tour of the Greater Accra Region, specifically in the Amasaman Constituency, Mahama did not mince words, urging the EC to "wake up" and address what he describes as "numerous anomalies" in the register.
“You better wake up; you are not doing your job properly,” Mr Mahama stated, as he lambasted the EC over its handling of the voters' register.
He expressed concerns about the potential for these issues to cause confusion and undermine the electoral process on Election Day.
Earlier, the NDC’s Director of Elections, Dr. Omane Boamah echoed these concerns, calling for a forensic audit or a thorough parliamentary investigation into what he termed "incurably defective anomalies" within the register.
Mr Boamah argued that without such measures, the integrity of the election could be compromised.

But EC explained that the purpose of exhibiting the provisional voters register is to identify and correct any errors or omissions before the final register is printed for the elections.
"It is only after all identified issues are corrected that the final register is printed for the elections. This has been the practice since 1992," it added.
