Some civil society organisations have added their voice to calls for an audit to be conducted on the provisional voter's register for the 2024 election in December.
According to the Executive Director of The Ark Foundation, Dr Angela Dwamena-Aboagye, conducting an audit of the register would not only address the doubts in the minds of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) but other members of the public.
Speaking to JoyNews, she explained that there are currently concerns about the credibility of the voter's register, and an independent audit would reaffirm the credibility of the Electoral Commission (EC).
“I am not even thinking about a forensic audit. I think we can come to the table and agree on a very reasonable way of auditing this register to the satisfaction of all parties. Believe me, it is beyond the NDC. It is for all Ghanaians,” she advised.
She argued that this would also increase trust in the work of the EC. On the back of this, she said “I think that it is okay if we have sort of an independent audit.”

Meanwhile, the NDC has issued a one-week ultimatum to the EC to take action on their petition calling for a forensic audit.
The National Communications Officer of the NDC, Sammy Gyamfi, announced that if the EC does not respond within this period, the party will escalate its efforts with a series of protests aimed at piling pressure on the Commission to ensure transparency.
