Yango ride-hailing service, part of global tech company Yango Group, has marked the just ended cancer awareness month with a free breast cancer, prostate and general health screening for over 400 partner drivers, couriers, their families and passengers.
The screening took place on Saturday, 2nd November 2024 at the Makola Market in Accra and was in partnership with Standout Care, a non-profit primary health outfit and social enterprise. This initiative follows a series of health related activities organized by Yango in recent times including free eye screening and a partnership with Beaver Health to offer quality subsidized healthcare for Yango partner drivers and couriers.

The activity forms part of Yango’s commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of its partner drivers and couriers as well as the general public, especially women. The checks included general medical screening, breast examination, ultrasound scan, lab tests, eye tests, dental checks and nutritional counseling and had about 300 women accessing the free screening. Some of the beneficiaries also got free medication for their ailments.
This breast cancer awareness and health screening follows a series of activities organized by Yango in recent times to give back to the community. These include the Yango Education Program offering free data analytics courses in Python & SQL, safety awareness programs and training for partner drivers and couriers.
Country Manager for Yango in Ghana, Mr. Tom Ofonime highlighted the company’s commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of all Ghanaians particularly the partner drivers, couriers and passengers. He reiterated the need for regular checks so that any complications are identified and treated as early detection saves lives.

Mr. Ofonime said, ‘’We are dedicated to ensuring the well-being of our partner drivers, couriers, their families and passengers by prioritizing regular health screenings, especially for women, to safeguard them from all pertinent health issues. We partnered with Standout Care to organize this particular screening to create more awareness among market women. ’’.
He said: “This is the 3rd time we partnered with Yango in the past year alone. They have shown keen interest in ensuring that drivers, passengers and all users of the Yango platform get regular health checks. It is crucial to everyone and helps to detect malfunctions and health issues early so they can be handled immediately to avoid complications in the future. We are excited to partner with Yango again this year to touch the lives of Ghanaians.’’
Mrs Faustina Appau, a trader at the Makola Market and the sister of a Yango partner driver, who took part in the screening exercise expressed her gratitude for this activity.
“My brother is a driver who cooperates with the Yango platform, and I am glad the company decided to do this for us. We spend most of our time at the market and barely get the chance to go to the hospital for health checks. Breast cancer is killing many women today and it is important that we get tested to help prevent it. Thank you to all the organizers for continuously caring about our welfare,” she added.
