Ghanaians have identified unemployment and job creation as the most pressing issues in elections, according to an Afrobarometer survey.
A governance and democracy expert, Professor John Osae Kwapong, has called on the government to prioritise addressing these concerns, which remain critical to the electorate.
He said this during a presentation titled "The Democratic Project" at a virtual public forum organised by the University of Arts, Media and Communication (UNIMAC), on the theme: “The Election Dividend: Threats to Democracy, the Role of Communication, and Reinventing Civic Responsibility.”

Prof Kwapong hinted that the issue of unemployment and job creation are the most important problems that elections should address.
According to the expert, an Afrobarometer survey on round two of the elections has revealed that since 2002, the major problem which is constantly on the minds of Ghanaians is unemployment and this clearly gives a strong signal of election dividend which is the expectation of Ghanaians.
“The Afrobarometer survey has a question about the most important problem that the government should address. And so here again, you would see that all the way back to the second round of the survey in 2002, it's been unemployment has constantly been the issue on the minds of Ghanaians.
"And then in round six, 2014, it was the economy. In 2022, it was the economy, infrastructure and roads were one. But the number one problem that has been on the minds of Ghanaians has been unemployment and job creation,” he said.
