The Communications Director of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Henry Asante Twum, says the Black Stars' failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 'will always hang around our necks.'
Ghana failed to secure a spot at the continental showpiece for the first time in 20 years, finishing bottom in their qualification group.
Otto Addo's side accumulated just three points from six games; two each against Sudan, Niger and Angola as they failed to win a game.
"It's not been easy especially when history will not forgive you. In 2004 when we didn't qualify for the AFCON, it's always been the reference point...," Asante Twum told JoySports.
"Twenty years down the line, we fail to qualify, and it is during a time when some of us are at the helm of affairs. History will not forgive us; [Not qualifying for the AFCON] will always hang around our necks which is a difficult thing to take around this time.
"But at the end of the day, we have to move on. We are a powerful football nation, there are difficulties around this time, we have to sieve the seal and pick the positives."
The future of Addo has been the topic since the failure to book a place in Morocco. However, the former Black Stars international is set to continue as head coach.
The Black Stars' next assignment is in March when the 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers resume.
