Former Ghana Ambassador to the Netherlands, Dr Tony Aidoo has criticised President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, for mismanaging Ghana’s economy and misleading the nation.
Speaking on AM Exclusive on Joy News, he accused the president of misleading Ghanaians and mishandling the economy while calling for justice and peace in the upcoming elections.
“We’ve endured eight years of hardship under Akufo-Addo. He has misled Ghanaians, and we cannot allow this to continue,” Dr Aidoo said.
“How can you manage an economy to the ground? Borrowing recklessly, squandering resources, declaring bankruptcy, and seeking debt forgiveness have characterised this administration. This trend dates back to the Busia era when his government faced conflicts over borrowing policies.”
Dr Aidoo expressed confidence in the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) winning the upcoming elections. “The NDC will win the 2024 elections hands down and with one touch. Ghanaians know we cannot give this administration another four years. Look at the economy and the state of our constitutional bodies. Our moral standard as a nation is non-existent.”
He also called for a peaceful electoral process, condemning the violence that occurred in the 2020 elections, where eight people lost their lives. “No soldiers should be at polling stations with guns. Akufo-Addo is the only president under whose administration lives were lost during an election. Is he proud of that?”
Dr Aidoo delivered a peace message ahead of the polls, urging fairness and justice. “Let there be justice, and peace will follow. Don’t manipulate the courts and then tell us to seek redress there because you know the outcome is already in your favour. Justice is the key to ensuring peace during these elections."
