Presented by Father Andrews Campbell, Resident Director of the Weija Leprosarium, the Lepers Aid Committee said the citation is in recognition and appreciation of Dr. Bawumia's ''dedication to the welfare and dignity of people affected by leprosy in Ghana."
"Your selfless contributions have set a standard of service that resonates across Ghana and beyond, and has brought a renewd focus to improving the lives of leprosy sufferers," the citation added.
"In gratitude and respect, we honour you, Your Excellency.
God bless you for your love and dedication."
Dr. Bawumia also expressed gratitude to the Lepers Aid Committee for the citation, and pledged to continue his support to them, as a patron of the Lepers Council.
Dr. Bawumia was later joined by his wife, Samira, as they served the cured lepers their lunch.
The Vice President said eight years ago when he was moving into his official residence as Vice President, he did his house warming with the lepers, and as he prepares to exit, it was right he held another session with his friends.
