On the midnight of Tuesday, January 7, 2025, the 8th Parliament of Ghana's 4th Republic was officially dissolved, paving the way for the 9th Parliament to commence its duties.
Later that evening, the newly-elected Members of Parliament (MPs) convened to elect their leadership and formally mark the start of their term.

The MPs unanimously elected Alban Bagbin as the Speaker of the 9th Parliament. The Chief Justice, Gertrude Torkornoo, administered the oath of office to the Speaker.
In turn, Speaker Bagbin swore in the MPs-elect, formally inaugurating the new Parliament.

The historic event was graced by several dignitaries, including members of the diplomatic corps, religious and traditional leaders, and prominent political figures.
In subsequent proceedings, the House selected the National Democratic Congress (NDC) MP for Akatsi South, Bernard Ahiafor, as the First Deputy Speaker.

Andrew Asiamah Amoako, the independent MP for Fomena, was re-elected to serve as the Second Deputy Speaker, continuing in his role from the previous Parliament.
The night's significant moments were captured by Adomonline’s photojournalist, Joseph Odotei, who documented the vibrant atmosphere in Parliament.
