Special Aide to President John Mahama, Joyce Bawah Mogtari, says the Burkinabe leader, Ibrahim Traoré's appearance with arms during the inaugural ceremony could yield positive results.
She explained the warm welcome extended to the Burkinabe leader might encourage him to embrace democracy.
“You know this is also a country with a very delicate history currently, and so there are all sorts of things at play. If there is anybody who can get him to actually rescind his decision to continue being a military leader, Ghana has its own history.
“If we want a way in which we can encourage him to go back to democracy, I’m sure that this may be a great way. You can still go to the polls and lead your country with whatever flair and pageantry you want." she opined.
Speaking on JoyNews' AM Show on Tuesday, January 8, she stated that before the invited guests were allowed into the event’s perimeter, thorough security checks were conducted.
Her comments followed public concerns about the leader mounting the presidential platform carrying a pistol.
President Ibrahim Traoré was seen at the presidential inauguration ceremony exchanging pleasantries with the newly elected president while still carrying a sidearm.
Meanwhile, she expressed her frustration upon seeing the weapon on the Burkinabe leader yesterday at the event, saying "I also found it a bit awkward when I saw the gun on him".
