The Ghana eSports Federation has successfully organized the first edition of the Phygital Football Tournament, serving as a qualifier for the World Phygital Football Championship set to take place in Dubai in 2025.
The two-day event, held from January 17–18, 2025, at the University of Ghana Athletics Oval, brought together 16 teams vying for the coveted opportunity to represent Ghana on the global stage.
The tournament featured a unique blend of digital and physical football, with a total of 25 matches played across both formats. In a thrilling finale, After6 FC emerged as champions, defeating Payola FC 7-2 to claim the top spot.
Phygital football, governed by the World Phygital Committee, combines the virtual experience of eSports with the traditional physical version of football, creating a novel and exciting sporting format.
With this victory, After6 FC has secured their place in the world qualifiers scheduled for next month, where they will represent Ghana in this groundbreaking competition.
The Ghana eSports Federation’s successful organization of the tournament marks a significant milestone in the country’s eSports journey and highlights the growing popularity of phygital sports worldwide.
