Ghana’s Sports Minister nominee, Kofi Adams, has assured that his leadership will prioritise all sporting disciplines, not just football, if approved for the role.
For years, successive Sports Ministers have focused heavily on football, often at the expense of other disciplines, commonly referred to as "lesser-known sports."
However, Adams has vowed to change this narrative.
“We are going to focus more on other sporting disciplines that have not received the attention they deserve,” he stated during his vetting before Parliament’s Appointments Committee on Thursday, 30 January.
Addressing concerns about his lack of a direct background in sports, Adams emphasised his commitment to improving the sector.
“I know many Ghanaians are happy about my nomination. I will not disappoint them, I will not disappoint President John Dramani Mahama, and I will not disappoint myself,” he affirmed.
A key part of his vision, he revealed, is to develop grassroots sports, ensuring young talents across various disciplines receive the necessary support and investment to thrive.
With his vetting now complete, Adams awaits the Appointments Committee’s approval to officially assume the role of Minister for Sports and Recreation under President Mahama’s administration.
