Parliament has approved the next batch of ministerial nominees appointed by President John Mahama, following their vetting by the Appointments Committee.
However, the Minority abstained from voting on the approval of Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa as Foreign Affairs Minister, leaving his confirmation to a majority decision.
While the rest of the nominees received unanimous approval, the Minority Caucus refused to participate in the approval of Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa as Foreign Affairs Minister.
Their reasons for abstaining revolved around the issue of ORAL, past controversies, and others.
With the Minority opting out, Mr Ablakwa’s approval was secured solely by a voice vote.
Prior to this, Parliament approved the fourth batch of ministers nominated by President Mahama.
The approval came after the committee recommended the nominations of Dr. Rashid Pelpuo, MP for Wa; Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, MP for Nanton; Samuel Nartey George, MP for Ningo-Prampram; Kofi Adams, MP for Buem; and Joseph Bukari Nikpe, MP for Saboba.
