Emmanuel Kwasi Bedzrah, Chairman of the ad-hoc committee set up by the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin to probe the chaotic incident at last week Thursday's vetting, has revealed that the Minority leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, instructed his fellow MPs not to participate in the ongoing probing exercise.
Speaking to the media shortly after receiving a directive from the Speaker, through the Clerk of Parliament, to suspend the hearing that was underway on Wednesday, Mr Bedzrah explained that one of the NPP MPs scheduled to appear before the committee later declined to do so.
"We were informed that when the NPP MP returned, he said his leader had asked him to excuse himself and not participate in the meeting," Mr Bedzrah said.
He added that another Minority MP also refused to attend, stating, "He said his leader instructed him not to come," and the MP had communicated this to him via SMS.
It is unclear whetehr this was the fofficial reason for the Speaker's directive leading to an abrupt end of the committee's work just on the first day of their sitting.
The committee had taken testimonies from seven witnesses and was handling the 8th witness when the directive to suspend was relayed to the chairman.
