A member of the Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) Committee, Daniel Yao Domelevo, has commended President John Dramani Mahama for extending his anti-corruption efforts beyond recovery to prevention through the newly introduced ‘Operation Prevent All Loot’ (OPAL).
In an interview with JoyNews' Maxwell Agbagba on Monday, February 10, Mr Domelevo expressed his satisfaction with the President's broader approach to tackling corruption, highlighting that the President did not only focus on ORAL but also emphasised OPAL, which aims to prevent future financial mismanagement.
“The President made a point which made me extremely happy. He didn’t talk about only ORAL; he talked about OPAL—Operation Prevent All Loot. That is the most important thing. Yes, the leakage has happened already—we need to find ways to recover it. But we should also prevent additional leakages,” Mr Domelevo noted.
He further stated that preventing future corruption is just as crucial as recovering stolen assets and praised Mahama for addressing his concerns.
“In fact, that is my worry, and I was very happy when he addressed my worry. Unlike previous governments, we should not just hold them accountable while continuing the same bad practices. To me, I think it’s a good initiative. We hope to see action in the coming days,” he added.
He also stressed the importance of addressing corruption at its root by eliminating the culture of impunity that enables public officers to misuse state resources for personal or political gain.
