Consolidated Bank Ghana Limited (CBG) has officially commissioned an ultramodern laboratory and surgical theatre at the Larteh Health Centre in Akropong.
This initiative is part of the Bank's Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) commitment. It also aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) three which targets good health and well-being for all.
The Health Centre, which serves indigenes in Larteh and surrounding communities will greatly improve the quality of medical care available to residents, addressing critical healthcare needs in a region with inadequate medical infrastructure.
Speaking at the event, the Managing Director of Consolidated Bank Ghana Limited, Daniel Addo highlighted the importance of accessibility to healthcare services.
"We believe that quality healthcare should be accessible to everyone, regardless of their geographic location. By investing in the Larteh Health Centre, we are fulfilling our Corporate Social Responsibility but most importantly contributing to the health and well-being of our communities,” he stated.
He added “Our CSR initiatives focus on health, community development, and education. By aligning with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), we address crucial areas that promote progress and well-being, and this new laboratory and surgical theatre would address a significant gap in local healthcare.”
The upgraded laboratory is equipped with modern diagnostic tools to facilitate faster and more accurate testing. The surgical theatre will enable essential services that were previously hard to access.
This development will allow the Larteh Health Centre to handle more cases locally.
The Deputy Director of Nursing and Midwifery Services for Akwapim North, Regina Akweley Klutse, expressed gratitude to CBG for the intervention and noted its crucial role in improving healthcare delivery.
“Larteh Health Centre now leads in having a laboratory facility among our four health centres in the Municipality.
"This will significantly enhance the services provided at the Health Centre as previously, patients had to travel to Mampong which was costly.
"This new facility would provide timely and accurate medical care without long-distance travel.,” she stated.
The Akwapim North Municipal Director of Health, Dr. Nana Owusu Ensaw, who received the theatre on behalf of the Health Centre, expressed deep appreciation to CBG.
He said, “This state-of-the-art theatre will revolutionise how we deliver emergency and surgical care to the people of Larteh. Thank you, CBG for this transformative investment in our community’s health.”
Osabarima Asiedu Okoo Ababio III, Benkumhene of Akwapim Traditional area in his remark, commended Consolidated Bank Ghana Limited for constructing the facilities for the hospital and the community.
He said the Larteh Health Centre needed the facilities to promote quality healthcare delivery in the area, emphasizing that the hospital had required the facilities for a long time.
The initiative is a step forward in healthcare improvement and reflects CBG's broader vision of supporting sustainable development.
By addressing the healthcare challenges in the Municipality, the Bank is contributing to the overarching goal of health equity and better living standards as outlined in the SDGs.
Mr Addo was accompanied by the Deputy Managing Director of Corporate Resources, Nana Ama Poku, along with some Directors of the Bank, Esi Mmirba Wilson of People and Transformation, Gerald Quartey, Director of Credit, and Patrick Boadi of Internal Audit.
