In efforts to reduce child mortality, the Tafo Government Hospital is attempting to retool the Pediatrics Unit.
The lack of essential equipment for child health continues to hinder the facility’s quest to deliver quality healthcare for its clients.
According to Dr. Grace Naado, Head of the Pediatric Department, with essential equipment like the phototherapy machine which the hospital has lacked for some time, complications like jaundice, which can cause cerebral palsy in children, can be corrected early.

“Some of the children are born with jaundice, with this machine, we can treat jaundice in children. Laboring induced neurological dysfunction can affect the brain of the child which later develops in cerebral palsy”, she said.
Dr. Naado added “with this machine, children with the symptoms of jaundice in their eyes can be reversed.”

Through cash support from Kofi Job Foundation, the health facility has purchased essential equipment for the Pediatric Unit, including a phototherapy unit.
The hospital has also taken delivery of two C-PAP Machines, which supports respiration and a vein finder for locating veins during medical procedures.

Suction machines for clearing airways and surgical sites in the human body are among equipment purchased.
Chief Executive Officer of the Kofi Job Foundation, Dr. Esther Gyebi, stated that their goal is to reduce child mortality by providing essential equipment to support their healthcare.

She assured that the Foundation will continue to provide support to individuals and facilities in dire need.
Meanwhile, management of the Tafo Government Hospital has expressed gratitude to the Foundation, indicating willingness to put the equipment into good use.
