Lawyers for the former Board Chairman of the Public Procurement Authority Prof Christopher Ekumfi Ameyaw have come to his defence, firmly insisting on his innocence following his arrest by the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) for allegedly causing financial loss to the state.
"We the lawyers absolutely are confident that Professor Ameyaw Ekumfi is innocent of whatever they raised against him", Kenneth Korankye, one of Prof. Ameyaw's lawyers said.
The Lawyer added "Let them bring all the facts that they have, once they bring all the facts we shall answer them as counsels of Professor Ameyaw Ekumfi"
He emphasised that "I believe that our client is absolutely innocent of any charges, that's what I can say, let them do their homework, let them do it well and then when they come we shall also have our side of the story"
Prof Ameyaw-Akumfi is also under investigation by the NIB for financial matters related to his tenure as Board Chairman of the Ghana Infrastructural Investment Fund (GIIF).
The probe focuses on financial approvals made during his time at GIIF. Ken Kuranchie, a member of Prof Ameyaw Ekumfi's legal team argues that the allegations are unfounded and vowed to challenge them vigorously in court.
The NIB is also pursuing some other cases.
One of them is a former Deputy National Service Authority (NSA) Director in charge of operations, Kwaku Ohene Djan, who’s popularly known as Osonoba, who is still believed to be in custody.
