The Crown Prince Moulay El Hassan and Princess Lalla Khadija have launched the national “Ramadan 1446” operation on Monday in the Bouregreg district of Rabat.

This initiative, carried out under the Instructions of King Mohammed VI, is organised by the Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity and aims to support one million households, reaching nearly five million people during the sacred month of Ramadan.

Now in its 25th year, this annual operation embodies the spirit of compassion, solidarity, and social justice, providing much-needed food assistance to Morocco’s most vulnerable populations, including widows, the elderly, and people with disabilities.

With a budget of 330 million dirhams, the initiative will distribute 34,280 tonnes of essential food items, including flour, milk, rice, oil, sugar, tomato paste, vermicelli, lentils, and tea.

This year, 74% of beneficiary households are located in rural areas, spread across 1,054 municipalities out of a total of 1,304.

For the first time, the program utilises the Unified Social Register, a national information system established by the Ministry of the Interior to ensure fair and efficient allocation of social support based on objective socio-economic criteria.

The initiative is financed through the combined efforts of the Ministry of the Interior and the Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs, reinforcing the government’s commitment to social welfare.

Thousands of volunteers, including social workers and local authorities, have been mobilized to ensure the smooth distribution of food aid across Morocco.

To guarantee fair distribution and efficiency, two oversight committees—one local and one provincial—are in place to monitor food supply chains and distribution centers.

The operation is further supported by the Royal Armed Forces, the Royal Gendarmerie, the Ministry of National Education, the National Mutual Aid, and several key national institutions, ensuring a seamless execution of this large-scale humanitarian effort.

Additionally, the Ministry of Health and Social Protection, along with the National Office for Food Safety (ONSSA), is overseeing the quality control of food products, ensuring that all distributed items meet health and safety standards.

Marking the launch of the operation, Prince Moulay El Hassan and Princess Lalla Khadija personally handed out food baskets to 20 heads of beneficiary households, symbolising the nation’s unwavering commitment to supporting those in need.

The event concluded with a commemorative photo alongside the dedicated volunteers, highlighting the spirit of unity and compassion that defines Morocco’s Ramadan solidarity efforts.
