Attorney General Dr. Dominic Ayine has warned all current public officeholders that he will prosecute anyone who engages in corruption or financial crimes while in office.
Speaking at a press conference on Monday, Dr. Ayine emphasised that he will not wait until officials leave office before taking legal action against them.
His warning comes as he provided an update on the progress made by the Operation for Recover All Loot (ORAL) team in investigating financial mismanagement under the previous administration.
"I’d like to take this opportunity to tell everyone in public office who is listening to me that if you do what suspect Adu Boahene did, I’ll come after you. I'm not going to wait because I have the authority of Mr. President that if you engage in anything like what Mr. Adu Boahene has done, or any act of criminality, I will not wait—I will come after you. So, this is a warning to everyone," he declared.
Dr. Ayine highlighted several cases of financial crimes under the previous New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration, including the alleged laundering of over $7 million by the former Director-General of the National Signals Bureau (NSB), Kwabena Adu Boahene.
According to the Attorney General, Mr Adu Boahene is accused of embezzling state funds and laundering them through real estate investments in Accra.
He is also believed to have acquired multiple properties outside Ghana using suspected illicit funds. Investigators allege that Adu Boahene used a private company he set up to divert government contracts for personal gain.
Mr Adu Boahene, who served as Deputy Director-General before being promoted to head the NSB between 2017 and 2025, is currently under investigation for misappropriation of state resources.
Dr. Ayine did not mince words when describing the extent of corruption under the previous administration.
"The country was turned into a crime scene for eight years," he said.
