Legendary Ghanaian music producer, Jeff Quaye, popularly known as Jay Q, has recounted the support some individuals gave him when he started his music career.

While discussing ways to project Ga creatives on Joy FM's Showbiz A-Z on March 22, 2025, the ‘bottle breaker’ said he was lucky to have people like Randy Abbey lend him a helping hand.

“In 2003 when I won my award we went to a club called Warehouse at Adabraka. I was there and they said somebody wanted to talk to me. And then when I went it was our own Randy Abbey. He said, ‘for me being a Ga, I really appreciate everything you are and what you are doing with our music’,” Jay Q said.

He added that Randy went ahead to pledge his readiness to provide Jay Q with anything he needed to help his music business.

Jay Q acknowledged that although a lot of Ga creatives struggle to get support, there are some Ga people who are also doing well in that regard and should be commended. 

He also appreciated the help of music producer David Affotey Laryea (Apor), who he said, was supportive to not only Gas, but a lot of people in the creative industry.

Also on the show, broadcaster and gospel music advocate OB Nartey called on more people in the Ga communities who have the wherewithal to invest in the talents of Ga creatives.

The discussion, hosted by Kwame Dadzie was in celebration of the Ga people and their contribution to the creative economy, as part of the Joy FM's Ghana Month celebration. Two weeks ago, Showbiz A-Z held a durbar at the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park, for a Ga-themed conversation on the history, customs and traditions of the Ga people.
