Veteran journalist and former Minister for Information, Fritz Baffour, has raised concerns over what he says are significant flaws in Ghana's systems, particularly in light of the ongoing allegations of siphoned funds against the former manager of the National Signals Bureau, Kwabena Adu-Boahene.
Speaking on JoyNews' AM Show on Thursday, March 27, Fritz Baffour emphasised that the incident, where Adu-Boahene is accused of embezzling state funds, exposes critical weaknesses in Ghana's financial oversight and accountability structures.
"I think it (the scandal) shows the flaws in our system, we got serious flaws in our preventive system," he said, adding "If somebody can go to a bank and take GHȼ7 million out whether it is his money or not, it should raise red flag either for GRA or those monitoring authorities because there is something wrong with it."
Mr. Baffour stressed that the scandal highlights broader systemic issues within the country's institutions, including inadequate checks and balances that have allowed for such mismanagement to go unnoticed for so long.
"Our institutions are not doing their work" he bemoaned.
The former information minister called on the government to ensure that public officials, especially those handling state resources, are held to the highest standards of accountability.
