The Member of Parliament (MP) for Manhyia South, Baffour Awuah, has urged Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo to remain steadfast and fight the petition seeking her removal.
The MP urged the Chief Justice not to succumb to pressure but to instead stay and defend her position, emphasising the importance of upholding her oath as the head of the judiciary.
"She shouldn't jump, she has to stay, she has to fight, look, it shouldn't be easy for a President or anybody to go after a Chief Justice..... so she shouldn't leave she should stay there and defend her oath," he said on JoyNews' Newsfile on Saturday, March 29.
His remarks come amid growing attention surrounding the petition, which has sparked debate among the legal and political class.
This petition, which has drawn national attention, follows allegations of misconduct and abuse of power levelled against the Chief Justice.
The Chief Justice who was appointed by the erstwhile Akufo-Addo is facing potential remove from her position as head of the judiciary following some three persons who have petitioned President Mahama to remove her.
President Mahama has given her 10 days to submit a preliminary response.
She has since asked the President to serve her vital information about the case to prepare her response to the matter.
The petitions were forwarded to the Council of State for consultation, as mandated by Article 146(6) of the 1992 Constitution.
