President John Dramani Mahama has underscored that the future of Ghana’s development will be shaped by the unity of its people, not by divisions.
Speaking at the Eid-ul-Fitr event in Accra on Monday, he called on all Ghanaians, particularly religious leaders, community elders, and the youth, to embrace peace, understanding, and mutual respect to build a prosperous nation.
“I urge all Ghanaians, especially our religious leaders, community elders, and the youth, to keep fostering peace and understanding amongst us,” President Mahama said.
“Let us reject division, let us reject hatred, and let us reject intolerance. The Ghana we desire can only be built through collaboration and mutual respect,”he added.
He also commended the Muslim community for their significant contributions to the nation's development, highlighting their impact across key sectors such as education, healthcare, business, and governance.
“Our Muslim communities have made significant contributions to our development, and I must commend them for this,” he stated. “From education and healthcare to business and governance, the influence of our Muslim brothers and sisters is evident throughout the country.”
President Mahama emphasised the important role of Muslim communities, particularly in the northern regions, in driving entrepreneurship and enriching the nation’s cultural fabric.
“Our Zongo communities remain centres for entrepreneurship and cultural enrichment,” he remarked.
However, the President called for greater efforts to ensure that development in Muslim-majority areas is balanced with the rest of the country.
“We must ensure that the development in our Muslim communities is balanced and catches up with the rest of the country,” he urged, stressing the importance of an inclusive approach to national progress.
He encouraged all Ghanaians to work together in building a prosperous, united, and forward-thinking nation.
