President John Dramani Mahama has called on the private sectors of Ghana and the Czech Republic to collaborate and explore potential avenues for cooperation across various sectors of the Ghanaian economy.
He highlighted Ghana’s strategic position within the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), which offers access to a market of over 1.3 billion people.
The President made the appeal on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, while addressing a joint conference at the Jubilee House in Accra during the three-day state visit of the President of the Czech Republic, Petr Pavel, to Ghana.
“I, therefore, urge the private sectors of the two countries to come together to explore possible avenues for cooperation in various sectors of the Ghanaian economy. I am happy to note that tomorrow, there will be a business roundtable between Ghanaian and Czech businessmen on trade,” he said.
President Mahama also acknowledged the importance of trade and investment as the foundation of economic relations between the two countries and encouraged efforts to increase the currently low levels of trade.
At the multilateral level, the President expressed appreciation for the longstanding cooperation between Ghana and the Czech Republic at international platforms such as the United Nations and called for continued support for each other's candidates vying for international positions.
He specifically appealed for the Czech Republic’s support for Ghana’s candidate, Ambassador Mohammed Adam, for the position of Secretary-General of the United Nations World Tourism Organization, while assuring Ghana’s reciprocal support for the Czech Republic’s bid for membership on the UN Security Council.
