The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has thrown its full support behind the suspension of the Chief Justice, Gertrude Torkonoo, with the party describing the move as a necessary step toward restoring credibility and respect to the judiciary.
The Deputy Director of Elections and Information Technology for the NDC, Dr. Rashid Tanko-Computer, defended the decision in an interview on JoyNews’ The Pulse on Tuesday, saying the suspension is in line with efforts to cleanse and dignify the judicial system.
“In order to sanctify the judiciary and bring them upstream, we must do the right thing,” he said. “We want to bring back the glory of the judiciary.”
He stressed that the judiciary must earn public trust through impartial and unquestionable rulings.
“They must be respected, and their decisions will be respected henceforth—not the kind of decisions they’ve been giving that everyone keeps questioning,” he noted.
Dr. Tanko-Computer further commended President John Mahama for acting decisively, stating that the NDC is "very much happy" with the suspension.
