A legal challenge has emerged in the high-profile case involving Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo, as the former Attorney-General, Godfred Yeboah Dame, has formally objected to the Acting Chief Justice, Justice Baffoe-Bonnie, presiding over the matter.
According to the former Attorney-General, Justice Baffoe-Bonnie stands to be directly affected by the outcome of the proceedings, and as such, his continued role as presiding judge would constitute a conflict of interest.
In response, the Deputy Attorney-General, Srem-Sai, dismissed the objection, arguing that the perceived personal benefit to the Acting Chief Justice is unfounded.
He asserted that “there is a misconception of personal benefit,” and insisted that Justice Baffoe-Bonnie’s role is not compromised by any direct or indirect gain arising from the case.
The legal panel, following the arguments presented, has announced its decision to rise temporarily in order to deliberate privately on the objection.
This internal consultation is expected to produce a ruling on whether Justice Baffoe-Bonnie can continue to preside over the matter.
The case, already attracting significant public interest, now faces additional scrutiny as the judiciary seeks to preserve both procedural fairness and institutional integrity.
